Born in 1976 in Chingola, Zambia, Stary Mwaba is a self-taught artist. His first career was as an AIDS counselor, and the act of painting has helped to remove the sad memories of that time from his mind. He learned about painting techniques and materials in the studio of Lutanda Mwamba (born 1966). He has recently had residencies in the Caribbean Islands, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, and most recently in The United States (2010). He lives and works in Lusaka where he holds workshops for orphans and vulnerable children in conjunction with Chaminuka Lodge near Lusaka, with fellow Zambian artists.
